Un x pected Brazilian Project consists of six strong musicians blending jazz and Brazilian grooves with open improvisations and intricate rhythms. The compositions combine modern jazz and improvised music with brazilian rhythms in a dynamic, organic and energetic mix.
The project is the result of a longtime collaboration between Mats Holtne and Anders Vestergård. During travels to Brazil and meetings with congenial musicans sharing their fascination for rhythmic complexity, the idea of doing a project based upon different melodic and rhythmic layers to create new possibillities in form and structure evoked.
Un x pected Brazilian Project invites you to enjoy Marcelo Coelho- sax player with a doctors degree in composition, Emilio Martins- well-known percussionist, from Sao Paulo with a deep knowledge of the musical tradition of Brazil, Fredrik Kronkvist – altosax player, contributing with his strong melodic voice and Johnny Åman – bass player serving with a powerful and rhyhmic approach.
The CD Unite blends compositions of Holtne, Vestergård and Marcelo Coelho.
